Rowena Gallagher - Chair

Picture
I am fairly new to patchwork and quilting but have been sewing / knitting from an early age. I turn my hand to most crafts - cross-stitch, crochet, french knitted necklaces, cards making - but my current passion is quilting. I am also a keen tenpin bowler and coach for the local Youth 10 pin Bowling Club in Farnborough. I have been in the software industry for almost 40 years.

I have always enjoyed stitching, from the gingham apron for school cookery to A level needlework.
I returned to stitching again looking for activity when I retired.  Joining a patchwork leisure class in Fleet and from this I was introduced to Village Green Quilters in 2009.  In this group I have found many friends. I joined the committee to help Christine and now in my year 2019 /2020 as Chair I would like to encourage new members to come forward to help, so there is a rotation of people running the group and bringing new ideas.

I have always sewn and knitted since childhood. In the 1970’s I made my first Hexagon Patchwork bed cover and was hooked! After discovering rotary cutting I was well and truly hooked.
After completing both C&G courses, I have since taken various workshops and courses with many different tutors and with InStitches and still find there is so much more to learn and techniques to master.

The Brownie sewing badge was when I started sewing, and I have not really stopped since then. I have tried my hand at tapestry, cross stitch, embroider but  making my own clothes is my passion.  At college I studied City and Guilds Fashion and Design where we learnt to cut our own patterns.  It was not until about 2009 that I started quilting, I prefer the traditional quilting patterns.  With the inspiration of this group I have now started to design my own basic quilts.  I am totally self taught so do not consider myself to be an expert, if it turns out well it is shear luck.  Working nearly full time as a teacher it is difficult to do a lot of sewing.
