First: Deborah Hayes - Postcards from the Front
I scanned post cards sent by my great uncle private Ernest Nunn 7th Batallion Norfolk Regiment British Expeditionary Force in the days before the Battle of Loos 1915 . Ernest was awarded the meritous service medal and came home to Norfolk at the end of the war. He lost an arm and a leg when he prevented a railway accident a few years later. A brave man. The postcards were printed out on to photo print fabric & appliqued on to the quilt. The sky is a hand dyed fabric. |
Second: Anne Gallagher - Escapement
I took the Design, Print, Stitch course with InStitches and printed lots of fabric with the theme of clockwork cogs and gears. An escapement is a type of clock mechanism, but an old meaning of the word is a means of escaping, which quilting is for me. |

Third: Sue Butterfield - Love Letters
Letters , before the development of the telephone and computers, were the only way to communicate and were treasured. I have kept all of the letters which my husband and I exchanged before we were married and I wanted to incorporate them into an art work , so the Letter challenge seemed perfect! I intend to use computer printing on fabric and appliqué , but as the quilt has not yet been started things may change, so look carefully to see if these techniques have been included! |
